Flew out to Germany
Went to Germany to have a consultation with Dr Kopic. Very long day as we were returning the same day. My sister and I left the house at 4.45am. Our flight was delayed by 3 ½ hours at Stanstead because of technical problems. They were talking about canceling the flight, but luckily they managed to get a replacement plane.
When we arrived at the clinic Dr Kopic and Dr Draczynski performed a thorough examination. Dr Kopic still felt that it was looking better than his first examination of me. He did agree that we should change some of the treatment plan, as the chemo wasn’t doing enough. He told me that he still felt very positive about me but we needed to act quickly. In addition to changing the chemo (to Capcitabine with Tykerb) he wanted to add in a procedure called embolisation, which targets the tumours directly. The only problem is that it is a very expensive procedure, approx. £3,500, with additional transportation and accommodation costs as this treatment is performed in Frankfurt.
I was glad that I had gone to the Klinik as I needed to hear what they had to say. I feel much more positive after visiting the clinic.
The Nupogen injection I had yesterday was causing me to have very bad lower back pain all day. It felt like I was having contractions, but in my back. I had to keep stopping and taking deep breaths to help with the pain. People at the airport were looking at me a bit strange every time I got these pains.
Our flight was delayed again on the way back. Only by 1 ½ hours, but this meant that we didn’t get home until 2.30am. Both my sister and I were exhausted.
