Port-A-Cath Surgery

Was very stressed this morning.  Having port-a-cath surgery at the Royal Berkshire Hospital this afternoon.  I had wanted a general anesthetic, but will only be getting a local anesthetic.

I decided not to have a sedative, as I have not really got on too well with them in the past.  The doctor and nurses that carried out the procedure were lovely.  They did a great job of keeping me calm and carrying out the procedure successfully.  The whole thing took about 2 ½ hours.

I won’t go into details, but it wasn’t the most pleasant experience especially when the doctor was tunneling from my stomach to my groin, it felt like he was pushing a screwdriver through my stomach.  Another unpleasant moment was when I saw smoke drifting up from my stomach.  I was told that they were quaterising some of the blood vessels to stop the bleeding.  It felt like there was a lot of blood.

Anyway, the procedure went well.   I waited in the Recovery room until Simon and Mya came to pick me up.  Mya was lovely.  Simon had told here that mummy would be sore, so to be careful around her.  She was very good.   I would normally have given her a hug, but couldn’t.  It makes me sad when I can’t even give her a hug.

Very sore all evening.  Difficult to get comfortable sitting or sleeping.  So had a very uncomfortable night.
