Had a really tough weekend suffering with lymphoedema. I started getting pains in my left arm and shoulder on Friday. It steadily got worse over the weekend and I developed a high temperature on Saturday evening. This morning I could bearly move without being in agony, but my temperature had come down. The left side, just below my shoulder, was very swollen. The swelling was being caused by fluid build up (a seroma) which would need to be drained.
I called the Dunedin Hospital to see if anyone was available to drain the seroma. I was aware that if it is not treated it could lead to infection. After some confusion as to whether I could have the procedure done there, they came back to me and told me that the surgeon on duty would have to be called in from home to look at me and then decide on what needed to be done.
I decided to wait until the morning and get an appointment with my GP. I have a great relationship with him and he had already carried out the draining procedure on me a couple of weeks ago.
