Port-a-cath Operation today
I was very nervous about the port surgery. But once the Consultant started the procedure, it felt fine. But things didn’t go to plan. It was a good thing that he had decided to try a cheaper line to see if it was going to work before he opened the expensive port. I was gutted when he told me that there was a blockage in the vein and that the procedure had to be abandoned. I was told that the blockage was either due to spread of disease or damage from my previous PICC lines. He said that it was more likely to be damage from the PICC line. But it didn’t stop me worrying that the cancer may be spreading.
The only option now was to go up in the groin area and put the disc for the port just above my hip. This doesn’t sound too appealing, but I have no choice, because the veins on my hand are so well used that it is difficult to get a cannula in them.
I had had my bloods tested this morning. I was phoned by the Dunedin to let me know that the bloods were too low to have chemo on Monday, so needed them testing again on Monday morning.
