Have been feeling quite low over the last week. I think it is because there are more and more new lumps appearing on the right breast area. Some are quite big and some are moving higher up towards my collar bone. I have been feeling quite scared and panicky.
This scared and panicky feeling didn’t get any better after I received an email from Germany this morning with the results of the “circulating tumour cell” test. The test shows that I have a very high level (18.5 million) of circulating tumour cells (Human Epithlial Antigen positive cells). A person with nothing to worry about would have anything between 0 – 0.5 million circulating tumour cells. These results mean that I am at a very high risk of the cancer coming back. The test does not show if it has already come back, so we are none the wiser as to whether the lumps on my right breast area are cancer or not.
The other bit of information that the results showed was that half of the tumours tested showed that they were hormone positive. All previous tests have shown that my cancer was hormone negative, so this came as a real surprise
I decided to see if I could speak to my UK Oncologist, I didn’t think for one minute that he would be able to see me before he went away to Florida. So when his secretary told me that he would be happy to see me at the end of his clinic today I was really grateful.
Again, he was very good with me. We discussed the Germany results. There were a few questions that he and I both had about the results that I need to contact Germany about. We decided that it would be best to get a PET/CT scan booked before making any treatment plans.
