Flew to the Leonardis Klinik this morning with my cousin Pally. Am still jet lagged from coming back from Florida on Sunday, but it was really important that I find out what the new Oncologist, Dr. Rohnisch, at the Leonardis Klinik has to say before my appointment with my UK Oncologist on Thursday. I want to go into my appointment on Thursday armed with all the information that I need to be able to come to a decision as what the next step should be.
Also, the lumps on the right side around the mastectomy area have got a lot worse over the last three/four weeks. I was hoping that Dr. Rohnisch might be able to give his opinion on it.
I realised during my consultation that things had changed considerably at the clinic since Dr. Kopic left. They were using different labs to carry out their tests and the tests themselves had changed as well.
I decided to have blood taken to send to the lab to have two tests carried out. The first being the ‘Circulating Tumour Cell Test’. This should tell us if there is any cancer activity within my body. The second is the ‘Chemo-Sensitivity Test’. This will only be done if the first test comes back positive. The chemo-sensitivity test will be used to see which treatments the tumours respond to best so that the most effective path of treatment can be used.
Dr. Rohnisch was unable to make any comment on the lumps on the right hand side breast area. He said that the test results of the circulating tumour cell test should help us ascertain if the lumps were cancer or not.
We also discussed the Dendritic Cell Vaccine Immunotherapy. I was a little disappointed about what they had to say about it. They said that the results that they had from the immunotherapy over the last 2 years had not been as promising as they had hoped. They told me that immunotherapy was not out of the question for me, but it wouldn’t be the next step for me. I think I need to do more research into the different types of immunotherapy. I still feel that immunotherapy is the way to go, but it is getting the right type.
In summary, I feel just as lost after visiting the Leonardis Klinik, as I did before the visit.
